Symphony is the culmination of a project started in the early 1990s to record all of Edward Gregson's music for brass band for the Doyen label. The first track, Of Distant Memories, is the test piece for the Championship Section of the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain 2013 and also the Dutch National Brass Band Championships 2013. The final track, Symphony in two movements, was Black Dyke Band's own choice selection at the European Brass Band Championships 2013 and has been selected as a test-piece at the North American Brass Band Championships 2014.
