  1. Listening Post No. 156 review by Tim Mutum on 10/09/2018

Released as part of Grimethorpe Colliery band's centenary celebrations, this compilation disc brings together music synonymous with the band. It's in three segments, the first drawing on music from Brassed Off, as well as remembering former conductor George Thompson with his arrangement of the Fingal's Cave Overture. The middle section is six examples illustrating how good the band is at entertaining, and the finale represents two of the band's great victories - Spectrum and the New Jerusalem. The Vinter is conducted by another luminary, Elgar Howarth, whilst the winning conductor, Frank Renton, leads the Wilby in its only studio recording to date. A neglected gem, but now available again on CD, alongside other music originally released on Doyen between 1992 and 2011.
