    For the World

The fine concert march that kicks off our musical journey is written by Kevin Norbury. Kevin is one of only a few musicians to be able to boast membership of the ISB and the New York Staff Band both of which benefited significantly from his ability to write engaging and challenging works.

The intriguing Nordic Polska is based on a collection of traditional Swedish and Finnish folksongs and features seven soloists. It has quickly risen to prominence following a sensational presentation at Brass in Concert 2016 again by Cory Band on which occasion the arranger was also the conductor.

Our well-travelled troopers end their world tour with a benediction, and there is no finer way to conclude than with a traditional Celtic blessing arranged by the prolific Danish arranger Erik Silfverberg.

  2. Cross Flourishes

The idea of a recording was first talked about at the historic gala concert after the The National Brass Band Championships in 1997. It was the first time Black Dyke Band and The International Staff Band, performed together at the Royal Albert Hall.

The trombone sections became instant friends and it wasn’t long before the Black Dyke trombone quartet was officially formed. This CD is a collaboration of the trombone sections from both Black Dyke Band and The ISB. Profits from the making of this recording go to Air Ambulance.

  3. Endless Power

There is an extraordinary power available to believers through the Holy Spirit, a power that can accomplish far more than we can imagine. We have power to make a difference in the world. We have power to reach out and deliver hope. That is what we, as the NYSB, seek to do through all of our efforts.

Our hope is that this recording will give you a glimpse of what we believe as individuals and as a collective group. What follows on this disc are new compositions delivering the Christian message in fresh and exciting ways.

This recording also features the NYSB Composition Contest winning work, Fearless, by Andrew Wainwright.

  4. Larsson in Brass

"The CD title is accurate, for on the disc my melodies originally scored for voice and piano are rendered in brass – thanks to a series of gifted brass arrangers. There are many such arrangements based wholly or partly on my music in the Army’s brass repertoire, and it has been fascinating to work with Stephen Cobb to whittle them down to a manageable number that would also allow space for new items to be featured."

This narrative in music and words sets out to explore Holy Week, one of the most important journeys undertaken in the Christian faith each year. This is a time when Christians particularly remember the final moments of Jesus’ life – from Palm Sunday through to Easter Sunday – and is the most solemn week of the Christian year.

  7. Immeasurable

"We endeavour, as a group of Christian people, to use the collective and individual talents that we have to extend the Kingdom. We are, as the band’s motto “pro causa optima” translates, playing “for the best reason” of all. We pray that you will enjoy the music presented on this CD but, above all, that you will be blessed, challenged and inspired."

  8. Green Book Favourites - Norwich Citadel Band

Since 1921, The Salvation Army’s Triumph Series Journal (named the Second Series until 1953) published music generally aimed at smaller and/or younger bands. In 1939, a first book of ‘favourites’ was published, followed in 1968 by the Triumph Series Favourites (No. 2) book, which soon became commonly referred to as ‘the Green Book’. As the name suggests, this was a collection of music published in the preceding years which had found a high degree of popularity among the bands which regularly used the Triumph Series Journal. All of the music on this recording has been taken from the Green Book, and was first published between 1939 and 1962. The featured composers include some of The Salvation Army’s foremost writers, and it is a humbling realisation that while individuals such as Dean Goffin, Ray Steadman-Allen and Leslie Condon were writing music to challenge the best Salvation Army bands of the day, they were also devoting their time to providing music for smaller bands and younger musicians.
