Franz Strauss (1822 - 1905) was a famous horn player who held the post of Principal Horn in the Munich Court Orchestra. In that post, he played in the premieres of several Wagner operas. He wrote two horn concerti, as well as other works for horn of which this is the best known.

This arrangement was made for Sheona White who recorded it with Yorkshire Building Society Band on her solo CD, The Voice of the Tenor Horn.
