It's good to see another recording from Boscombe Band enter the brass band arena and this time based around the Easter story. Much quality music has been composed over the years suitable for this time of year and here is a CD that contains both music that has been in the brass band repertoire for many years and a sprinkling of new arrangements that we might not have heard before. All pieces have been carefully placed on this recording and linked together by the increasingly familiar tones of TV and radio personality, Reverend Richard Coles.
Dorothy Gates' effective setting of the Donn Thomas song, Anointing fall on me is well placed, sensitively presented and features principal cornet Craig Snell, flugel horn Jonathan Searle and Stephen Main on soprano cornet, all providing musically shaped and meaningful moments.
This is a serious project from a very fine Salvation Army band and this listener was hooked into the journey through the celebrations of Palm Sunday, Christ's anointing, the sacramental moments of the Passover, the dramatic Crucifixion and glorious Resurrection. It was an enhancing experience and one I recommend to readers of this review.
